David Broom PHD


David Broom is a senior lecturer and course leader for Physical Activity, Health and Exercise Science at Sheffield Hallam University, England. David completed all of his academic study at Loughborough University. He graduated for his undergraduate degree in Physical Education and Sports Science (first class honours) in 2001. Whilst working for the British Heart Foundation’s National Centre for Physical Activity and Health he completed a part time Masters (gaining a distinction) in Physical Activity and Health in 2004. He completed his PhD in the physiology of exercise and health in 2008 and has since gained numerous fitness industry recognised qualifications.

His research and teaching interests predominantly lie in the physiology of exercise and health and the prescription and promotion of physical activity. Recent work has involved the study of the effects of exercise on hunger, energy intake and expenditure and appetite related hormones as well as the effects of exercise on cardiovascular disease risk factors such as blood pressure and postprandial lipemia. He has numerous publications in journals and a track record for income generation including the recent development, monitoring and evaluation of a childhood obesity intervention.

David supervises PhD students, is a committee member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science's Division of Physical Activity and Health and has presented at many UK and international conferences including invited keynotes.
