What is Audio Description?

Audio description (AD) is an audio track that narrates the relevant visual information in media.

AD assumes that the viewer can't see, and therefore depicts the key visual elements that are necessary to understand the content for blind and low vision viewers. By adding AD to your adverts, it makes the videos more accessible to more people.

  • It’s the right thing to do: We have a social responsibility to create ads which everyone can access, regardless of whether they have a disability.
  • Reach & growth: Reach a much wider audience with your messaging and reduce the risk of wastage. 3% of people in the UK are blind or partially sighted, with 250 people every day who start to lose their sight.
  • The purple pound: People with disabilities are a sizeable market (estimated disposable income of almost £1 trillion in the UK & EU). This includes more than two million people living in the UK with sight loss.
  • Brand perception: Modern consumers expect their values to align with brands (with visible DEI proof).

When creating Material in The Library, you'll have the option to choose whether your file contains AD.

If you do have AD on your ad, please check this option so the correct audio file gets sent to your executive, rather than the AD track.
